Desde o início da caminhada pela fé em louvor e devoção ao santo São Sebastião, em 1919, os romeiros são acompanhados por cavaleiros em suas comitivas ou tropas. Os tropeiros, condutores de tropas, seguem a tradição e se organizam para buscar o santo no sertão.
A comitiva Esperança este ano contou com a participação de vinte pessoas a cavalo e outras dez de apoio, bem familiar. Iniciou em 1983, quando Godinho, José Angelo e amigos iam para o sertão a cavalo e dormiam em barraca. Hoje, se reúnem um mês antes para programar o que vão fazer para a janta no sertão. Na semana, Marisilda, esposa de Godinho, fez paçoca e pernil para reunir os amigos. Na manhã da sexta, todos foram tomar café com paçoca antes de sair para o sertão. Com chuva e cansaço, participaram da missa e procissão de velas na Capela de São Sebastião numa renovação de fé, partilha e companheirismo.
“Amantes da 51” participa da romaria há aproximadamente dezesseis anos. Na sexta da missa no sertão ficam no local em barracas e todo ano providenciam camisetas com o nome da comitiva com cor diferente, predominando o amarelo. No grupo há em torno de trinta pessoas e se reúnem em outras datas do ano, fazendo eventos e passeios.
Na romaria há grandes e vários outros grupos de amigos e famílias tradicionais, que se organizam para unidos na fé, acompanhar o santo, fazendo da chegada de São Sebastião na cidade um momento de grande devoção. Uma tradição que completará seu centenário em 2019.
TROPEIROS, um pouco de história
No interior do país, longe da região litorânea, numa época onde não existiam estradas, o transporte de mercadorias era feito no lombo do cavalo ou mulas, surgindo no século XVII os tropeiros, “peões” que cuidavam da tropa dos cavalos e os conduziam. Geralmente os tropeiros percorriam em torno de três mil quilômetros entre os centros comerciais, o que se fazia necessário a troca dos cavalos durante a jornada de trabalho.
Como o caminho era longo, pernoitavam nos povoados ou acampavam, fazendo sua própria comida. Daí surgiram a “Queima do alho” e “Costela de chão” e a música de raiz sertaneja.
Ao longo das rotas pelas quais se deslocavam, ajudaram a fazer brotar várias das atuais cidades do Brasil, entre elas Sorocaba, umas das pioneiras na atividade de seus tropeiros.
Em Sorocaba aconteciam grandes feiras durante todo o ano, onde eram comercializados animais e gêneros para os garimpeiros e exploradores. Os comerciantes faziam o trajeto Rio Grande do Sul - São Paulo, transportando bois, cavalos, mulas e gêneros regionais. Várias expedições de bandeirantes paulistas atacaram a região, como a comandada por Antônio Raposo Tavares.
Nos séculos XVII e XVIII, os tropeiros eram partes da vida da zona rural e cidades pequenas dentro do sul do Brasil. Vestidos como gaúchos com chapéus, ponchos e botas, os tropeiros dirigiram rebanhos de gado e levaram bens por esta região para São Paulo, comercializados na feira de Sorocaba.
